"Technologia"
It was the first week of sailing in Croatia this season, second in Europe. I had some expectations, but I never imagined that it would be that amazing. So many new friends met, amazing weather, good food and so many photo & video memories thanks to Kaliński Film&Foto.

Amazing weather and fun on our way towards Vis.

Life On Board: Crew & Atmosphere
We are friends, that mostly met on the first day of the trip. The family, a few couples and even more adventurers. Most of them knew what to expect but on the other hand, they didn’t know anything. It was their first time to experience this kind of adventure. We all clicked instantly. We sailed, cooked, laughed, relaxed and enjoy our time to the fullest.

Highlights & Challenges
Bikes on Mljet, hike on Lastovo to the highest peak and we as the only boat in marina in Vis. Those were the top memories of many. On one day the wind was very favourable to do some tacking, while the boat was listing on the side. It was quite unexpected and evoked a variety of emotions.
On our second day, we had a longer passage – it took us around 9 hours to reach Loviste from Stari Grad. The wind and waves were not in our favour and kept increasing towards the evening. We arrived late, but happy. Some managed to rest on the way, but not everyone. I kept my watch.
Unexpected was for some of us that the restaurant denied splitting the bill. It is good to remember that in the future.

The Journey: Route & Conditions
The plan was to reach Mljet. This is the furthest place that you can go from Trogir, our starting base. On Mljet there is a National Park, where you can rent bikes and ride around lakes – one of my favourite spots. Just in this one place, you can have a little adventure, lovely meal in local restaurant with sunset, just a few meters away from where we parked the boat, a few hours of serenity. For those that decide to join me on this adventure, I have one more magical surprise.
The weather was a usual May. You can expect everything and this is what happened. We had a longer passage with stronger winds, relaxing cruise with sunshine and a brief thunderstorm while safely docked.

Places Worth Visiting
A night in Adio Mare restaurant in Pomena on Mljet and 3h biking on Mljet.
5h hike to the peak of Lastovo – this one I had to pass as we split into a hiking group and a cruising group. The hiking group started from Lastovo main town and hiked all the way to Konoba Pece.
A few words from the Captain: “Technologia”
Before the first day, only some of us knew each other. A family, friends, there was no one that knew everyone, knowing half of the group was top. For many it was first time and I am brave to say that not last. The moment I write about those memories, the season has ended and we are already planning next trip.
First day, the arrival. First meet and greet, shopping, getting onboard, meeting the Captain. This is true for everyone but me. There are so many things running in the background. I have to take over the boat, do the check-in hopefully without delays, coordinate everyone to do the shopping for the week, get luggage sorted, sometimes its possible to leave it somewhere, but if not then someone has to stay and relax with all the belongings of everyone. “Will they manage to do the shopping?” – this is my usual question in my mind. They probably never did shopping for a week – no more, no less, for a group of 10 people that have various dietary restrictions and needs. Well, this is their first task as a crew” – I mumble to myself smiling at a though how good of a crew they will become after this week.
I was both surprised and not, how the group “clicked” together. They usually do, so this was not surprising. A few years ago I had not so pleasant encounter after which I made a strong mental note that was also a plea to the universe that I wish to have wonderful people around me. The universe listened and I couldn’t be more happy. That encounter was more than 3 years ago already. The surprising part was how well the group get along with. It was so diverse in many ways: age, mindset, how outgoing or introverted they are. Those felt like minor differences, everyone had own space and there were so many daily connections and joy of doing activities together.
What I always love on those trips is how people are forgetting about their lives with daily tasks, challenges. This week was one where we stayed active. Longer sailing passages, weather that expected us to be “a bit more brave”, many hikes and explorations of the islands. That’s my favourite part of the year: not yet warm enough for swim, but amazing weather to go exploring, to admire how nature is awakening in full speed like the summer is just around the corner and want to say hello in your burned face, because you forget that the sunscreen is washed away by salty water. There were quite a few scenes that I’ve seen only on the video that was made after the trip and I am often re-watching it. This is one of the best videos describing a sailing week, where I am proud to be the Captain. Thank you everyone and special thanks to
Day 1 - Marina
First day. Arrival. New faces, new adventure. What will it bring this time? We’ll see after week. There is always this thrill that you feel, before stepping onboard. For me its the usual. Coordinating on the phone, meet & greet, me – boat check-in, everyone – shopping, staying by the luggage or a stroll around the marina. When the boat is ready I can finally invite everyone in. We choose the cabins, pack all the food and unpack/store our luggage. Once we are kinda organized and the sun is still shining – its time for the safety brief – the most important part before departure.

Entrance to Stari Grad – sunset time.

The most challenging day has arrive, but we haven’t expected that yet. We started late, around 11:00 and we knew that we had a long passage in front of us. We took time to enjoy the land, have a nice coffee and a stroll around the town. The forecast was so so, but wasn’t bad ………
”Day
- Our photographers “captured”
- Our senior enjoying the scenery of Mljet
- Our crew with bikes
- Our lovely couple posing on the bow
4 hours cruising compared to the yesterday’s 11 sounds like a walk in the park. Weather was also much nicer with gentle wind and a few clouds here and there. We managed to pass the Korcula town after an hour and only a few more hours were till we arrived on Mljet. Only after getting more into the open we’ve experienced some moderate waves that were still active after yesterday’s wind. The passage was mostly uneventful. Time to relax, talk, enjoy and get ready for the biking on Mljet.
On Mljet we went biking around the National Park. There are two lakes, but only going around the big one makes sense. Once I walked around the small one and only less than half is doable by bike. It’s better to have a little hike instead. Both areas are flat and there is asphalt most of the way around the bigger lake. At the very end it is possible to have a little break with a sea view. When timed well, you can manage to arrive back to Pomena just before sunset and this is where you sit in a restaurant just 3 meters from your boat. You can choose tea or glass of wine to admire one of the best sunset views. After delicious dinner there is time for a little walk that ends up with a magical surprise. To not ruin the experience, I guide you there once we visit Mljet together.

On the next day we departed early. Today again, just 4 hours cruising, the wind was so so, but we managed to get some sailing early on. Later it was even not so so, so we started the engine and sped up to Lucica. It was a short stop to hike towards Lastovo town – main town on the island of Lastovo. There we split into two groups. One went on a 5h hike to the highest peak of the island, while other part of the group moved the boat around the island to the western part. Of course, I went with the boating group. Once we moored and took the dinghy to the shore, we had a little walk to the restaurant that we booked for the evening – Konoba Pece. It is one of a few favourite places on the island, where you can have a good meal in a lovely atmoshpere, feels a little like at home! That night we had a fiesta!

Today we felt a little nostalgia as we were getting closer and closer back to Marina. Just one more stop – Vis.
On the way to Vis, we had a really good weather, we could get full sails and a little bit of tacking. The boat was safely listing on the side, some made faces of shock, while others of pure joy. After a few minutes those that felt uneasy at start – relaxed and joined those that were happily enjoing the connection with wind, waves, Neptune and themselves. We arrived quite late to Vis as it was late afternoon and here – there is no reservation of berth. In the middle of the season its best to arrive by noon.
We got lucky, actually super lucky. We were the only boat there. It could be thanks to one guy that adviced us to go deeper to Vis marina instead. My usual choice is to stay in Kut – eastern part of Vis bay. Here we’ve taken the most photos and videos.
